Replacement of the woofer..
As it turned out, the "Jamo item 20316 speaker” was the originally mounted
woofer
driver in the 7.7 and D590
Thanks to "Boye" from HIFI4ALL.dk - I got that nailed down.
But anyway, I was still in to replacing the woofer unit as the 10 years old drivers original suspension was porous and about to give up, and because the unit didn’t seams to match up to the cabinet and the rest of the driver stage.
So the search for a new woofer began and due to an excellent support from the SEAS vendor in Norway, I chose to go for a unit from their portfolio. Based on the cabinet volume (mainly VAS and QTS) and some driver data like Ohms and sensitivity we selected the H1288 unit (CA22RNX). This is a long stroke unit with great build and Free Air Resonance as low as 29Hz. This is super fine for a cost effective woofer.
I bought the unit from Europe-Audio.com in the Nederland's – and it was delivered in Denmark just 3 work days after closing the basket.
Even though the SEAS units metal basket are much bigger than the originally JAMO driver, the SEAS woofer match just perfect into the woofer slot in the cabinet. The originally driver was supported with a plastic ring to fit the unit to the cabinet, and in fact.. the woofer itself was NOT mounted by screws onto the cabinet, the plastic ring was... (picture on the ring on the previous page)
Below are some images comparing the two woofers:
One very special thing on the SEAS unit is the open coil design making room for
"long stroke action" I believe..
SO DOES THEY SOUND any better?
Excellent, much more control together with lower frequency output, they
are capable of handling more power (at the time I had finished one of the
speakers I compared to the originally one still awaiting for the upgrade) and I
do think they suit the speaker better. I’m happy
J
Just a note: If you are going to work on the speaker, count in to replace the
terminals as the originally ones are very fragile. They are not soldered to the
print board and if you tighten the nuts they will break over
